Rossvale Under 15's
The Beginning
Rossvale 1995’s started as part of the soccer academy way back when the Boys were only 5 and 6 years old.
There were 30 players initially and we had three teams playing in the East Dunbartonshire Soccer 7’s initiative. After two years of successful development we decided to move to the Cumbernauld & Kilsyth initiative setup as this allowed the Boys to play different teams but also gave them the opportunity play 8’s and then 9-a-side.
After they completed their U11 season the players split into two teams. One team remains as the Rossvale 95’s team (this team) and the other became Rossvale Utd.
The Rossvale 95’s team moved to the Strathclyde Youth league and played two seasons in their setup. The first at U12’s was purely development at 11-a-side and was a good starting point before moving onto competitive football at U13’s.
The Competition Started Here
The Boys first season in 2007/08 was a great success as they won the highly competitive Strathclyde Youth Leagues top division and also won the treble by virtue of winning the two other cup competitions available, remaining undefeated throughout the season. This was a tremendous achievement considering the excellent standard of opposition the Boys faced every week.
U14’s was also a successful season with the Boys finishing runners-up in the newly formed Glasgow District League and reaching the last 8 of the Scottish Cup only losing out in a replay by one goal.
We have always looked to offer the players new challenges and environments throughout their 9 years together as documented above and we decided last spring we’d like to move them onto another league and face a number of new clubs. This season (2009/10) the Boys are playing in the Central League at U15 level and are enjoying facing new opposition every week and visiting new grounds they haven’t played at before.
Team Philosophy
The philosophy of our team has always been to educate the Boys into playing pass and move football. It’s not always easy as development throws up new challenges with opposition players getting bigger and stronger but by sticking to our principles we are delighted with the style of football our players like to play.
Another key part of our philosophy is every player must give 100% every week no matter if it’s training or during the match, retain a positive attitude and to put the team first. If they retain those key values we are positive they will be successful no matter their profession in many years to come.
For years now we’ve had many dealings with the professional clubs and have built up good relationships with them all. Our teams first view of the academy teams was way back at soccer 7 level when they faced Hearts. Since then they have faced Aberdeen, Hamilton at New Douglas Park, Celtic at Barrowfield (twice), Rangers at Murray Park, Motherwell, Stenhousemuir at their first teams ground and had the honour of being the first Boys Club to play any of the Celtic academy teams at Lennoxtown in the spring of 2008.
Player Progress
A number of our players have also joined or have been with the professional clubs. This is great testament to their dedication and something as a team we are extremely proud of. We have also attracted excellent players from the pro-youth setup with no previous connection to our team as they understand the opportunity to return to the professional setup exists due to the number of scouts attending the players matches.
